2021 National Summer Show – Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society

With Covid restrictions hopefully in the rear-view mirror, 222^nd Westmoreland County Show played host to our Aberdeen-Angus Summer National. Judging in the glorious sunshine was ably taken care of by James Playfair of the Tofts herd putting the animals and exhibitors through their paces. After a wet start, the weather cheered up to give a fantastic day of showing.

Champion on the day was Female Champion, number 436, Evans Family’s Tree Bridge Polly Perkins, a 2016 born daughter of Oakchurch Evor N123. She had earlier taken the Female Championship, with Andrew Hodge’s Rulesmains Princess V183.

Standing Reserve was number 393, Richard and Carol Rettie’s April 2020 born bull Retties Lord Edwin W150, a son of Duncanziemere Edwin J311.

Yearling Champion was awarded to 398, Retties Prophet W116, also April born. He is a son of Gretnahouse Blackpot P685. Reserve was heifer champion, number 424, Longbank Ethel W305 from The Duncan’s. Ethel is a March 2020 born daughter of Duncanziemere Jupiter S175.

Here is a few words from our Judge Mr James Playfair, “ after the difficulty of lockdown and the pandemic it was lovely to see so many exhibitors coming forward to support the breed. The champion was a great example of what the breed should look in a suckler cow. The bull champion is something to differently watch and lookout for in the future.”
