he first of three bull sales at Kilkenny for 2019 proved to be a tremendous success with a very brisk trade for Aberdeen-Angus bulls of all ages recorded in the sales ring. Both the average price and clearance rate were well up on the same sale from 2018 and resulted in an average of just under €2700 at a 72% clearance rate.

The sale topper, Coolrain Pajero exhibited by Nigel Peavoy, Coolrain, Portlaoise, Co Laois sold for €4000. This 18 month old bull is sired by Ardrossan Admiral A2 and is out of a Coneyisland Legend E112 dam and took the reserve Aberdeen-Angus championship in the pre-sale show. Meanwhile, the supreme Aberdeen-Angus champion, Berry Packy from Patrick Murphy, Glasson, Athlone, Co Westmeath sold for €3100 and was one of 11 Aberdeen-Angus bulls that traded on or above the €3000 mark on the day.

Frank & Margaret McKiernan, Drumcrow, Corlismore, Co Cavan sold the 20 month old Drumcrow Prime Guy T697 for €3000. This bull carried a calving ease figure of just 1.2% (breed average: 2.09%) and is out of Drumcrow Pattie H336 who is sired by the Canadian AI bull, Coldstream Genetic Trend 80f.
