The Aberdeen-Angus YDP Senior Conference is for young people with an interest in beef cattle, from any breed or college, aged 18 – 26 yrs (although this year, we may accept participants up to 29 if you have attended previous YDP events). It is designed to develop and enhance the knowledge and experience of senior members through visits, workshops and presentations coupled with social activities revolving around the rearing and keeping of beef suckler cattle.  Elements of this event have been tailored to support the 2022 CALM competition.

Cost of event will be £130 payable with your booking form.

This covers Bed & Breakfast, transfers, Thursday night dinner, Friday lunch, teas and coffees, programme activities and speakers.

Introductions and Foyle site and agriculture with welcome refreshments.

Overalls and over boots will be provided.
Tour of processing plant, explanation of carcase in boning room, 15 point grading system, slaughter hall (optional), live assessment in lairage. Introduction to AAQB scheme.

Half hour drive to Foyle Food Group Farm in Cookstown. Trial projects information.

7.00 pm Dinner (sponsored by Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society) – Rooms at Rue restaurant.

FRIDAY

Visits to farms supplying finished cattle to Foyle Meats using Aberdeen-Angus bulls.  One dairy farm and one suckler herd.

Discussions on the management and breeding programmes will take place on farm

Return to Rooms at Rue

7.30 pm Dinner and night out experiencing local culture (payable by candidate)

SATURDAY– Check out of hotel by 11 am.
Breakfast followed by feedback and farewells.
