HW Angus 10th Anniversary Matron Sale- Report

22.11.2021

On Friday 19th November we saw the first HW Angus Matron Sale at H & H Borderway Mart, Carlisle. These females have been bred to be more moderate, easy fleshing and easy calving animals with high marbling, all the traits that make the Aberdeen-Angus breed famous.

A great deal of preparation had gone into the cattle on the run up to the sale and this was reflected in the sale ring when the cattle came through with a huge interest in procuring some of the best Aberdeen Angus genetics in Scotland.

HW BLACKBIRD S182 & HW BLACK BENTLEY X510

The sale topped at a high of 9,500gns to LOT 150 an August 2016 cow HW BLACKBIRD S182 with her Male calf at foot Lot 150A HW BLACK BENTLEY X510 who is sired by HW EVANDER S051 going to John James for his Glasnant herd in Wales. Next highest price with a calf at foot goes to Lot 156 HW GAMMER EULANNE T452 who sold with her HW EVANDER S051 sired bull calf HW GUMBO X479 at 5,800gns.

The Highest Price for a cow was for 8,000gns for Lot 165 HW KARAMA T532 (ET) an April 2017 cow sired by RAWBURN BOSS M554. She was closely followed by Lot 127 HW ANNIE R488 and Lot 136 HW MADAME PRIDE S632 (ET) both going for 7,000gns.

Congratulations must also go to Mr Jeffries who was the main buyer of live lots for winning the two embryos at the end of the sale.

It was a delight to see so many people showing an interest in this outstanding herd and we wish all the buyers well with their new purchases.
