More Yorkshire success for Shadwell Estate

More Yorkshire success for Shadwell Estate

11.07.2019

After a strong showing in the 2018 event, the 2019 Great Yorkshire Show saw more success coming the way of The Shadwell Estate from Thetford in Suffolk.

Judge Mr A. Lawson of Newcastle saw a clear stand-out in the entries in Shadwell Evolution T003 (pictured above) who was presented with the junior, male and overall breed championship in Tuesday 9th July’s Aberdeen-Angus classes at the Great Yorkshire Showground, before also taking the honour of junior interbreed reserve. The September 2017 born Evolution is by Retties JFK M195 and out of Shadwell Evora M618. Retties JFK M195 would prove to be a prominent feature in the day’s showing, as the sire to both the breed champion and reserve, along with the champion pair of animals in the pairs section from Messrs R&C Rettie.

Taking the reserve Aberdeen-Angus breed championship was the day’s female champion Kilmaluag Lady Isobelle S191 from Isle of Skye-based Mr Donald Rankin. Lady Isobelle is by Retties JFK and out of namesake Mosston Muir Lady Isobelle M249 and contributes to a successful period for all at Kilmaluag as they become a regular fixture amongst the prize winners on the show circuit.

It’s back to English soil for the day’s male reserve, being AE & CR Bishop’s Warrenho Jubilant Eric U727. Jubilant Eric from the Established Warrenho Herd of Aberdeen-Angus in Wokingham, Berkshire impressed as a class winner earlier in the day and is out of Warrneho Julia Erica N464 by Hallington Wizard P445.

Warrenho Jubilant Eric,

Female reserve on the day emerged from the local area through Marsden Farms Ltd with Liley Kinannie R173, based in Penistone in South Yorkshire. Kinannie is a multiple show champion who will go under the hammer along with the full Liley Herd of Aberdeen-Angus at the Stirling Bull Sales in October 2019. Perthshire-based Messrs R&C Rettie also had the junior female champion at this year’s Yorkshire event in Retties Pam T420 who follows up on finishing 4th in class at the Royal Highland Show last month. Pam is out of Retties Pam R321 by Deveron Leggat P469. Donald Rankin saw more success, with his cattle taking first place in the Pairs and Group of Three classes, expertly shown in the ring by the Retties.

This year’s Yorkshire event also saw a marquee private sale taking place, with the first place heifer from the Gordon Brooke Estate Gordon Euxette selling to Chris and Janet Watmore of the Holystone Estate after she caught their eye by winning her class earlier in the day.
