British-origin Donaumoos Jeff Eric P869 is Europrean Angus Champion

14.01.2020

There was success recently for Bernhard Delle and his Donaumoos Herd of Aberdeen-Angus, as his bull Donaumoos Jeff Eric P869 was crowned European Aberdeen-Angus Champion – a truly great achievement for the Germany-based breeder. We saw this as a great opportunity to speak to Bernhard about his background and his work, and what makes his bull Jeff Eric, who is of strong British origin, worthy of being European Champion.

The Delle family originally founded their butchery and restaurant 100 years ago, and their family business is now built upon four key pillars:

  • Aberdeen-Angus breeding farm: Donaumoos Angus
  • In-house butchery with attendance at weekly markets in the surrounding area
  • Successful restaurant with top quality steakhouse
  • Fully functioning hotel

‘’From nose to tail’’ – That’s the motto that the Delle family lives by. Not only premium cuts such as the fillet and the prime rib, but the whole animal is used in the in-house butcher shop. The loyal customers particularly appreciate the authenticity of their operation – they know what they are getting, and know it’ll be of the highest quality.

Donaumoos Angus set values on easy-handling cows. This means that the cows adapt to the conditions of their environment easily and achieve maximum results (out wintered, calving on field). As a breeding goal, they strive for balanced breeding in all areas. Extreme characteristics are not used to achieve natural effects.

The European Champion bull Donaumoos Jeff Eric P869 is sired by Donaumoos King Rossiter G182. He was bought as an embryo from Marion and John Tilson (Wedderlie Herd) through Eggs-Port of Hexham. The father’s descent is as follows:  AYNO ROSSITER ERIC B125 X WEDDERLIE KENSUE A239 .

Donaumoos Jeff Eric P869.

With particular reference to the last 10 years, you can follow the development of these animals from the Wedderlie Herd. Kensue is one of the consistantly prominant female families at Wedderlie, always producing quality stock.

Jeff Eric’s dam is Aln Jewel Erica G283, bought from Duff Burrell (Aln Herd) – again supplied by Eggs-Port at Hexham. She combines B/R New Frontier 095 and Papa Equator 2928 with Young Dale genetics, a combination that speaks for itself. Jeff Eric has excellent British origins.

When asked about what makes Jeff Eric such a brilliant bull, Bernhard Delle said ‘’He looks like a model’’. His most prominent and impressive characteristics include:

  • Easy calving – two groups of heifer calving
  • Good milk and very good udders
  • Very long cattle
  • Medium framed
  • East to feed
