Weekly news round-up: 2nd June 2017

With just two weeks to go until we welcome our friends and colleagues from all over the world for the World Angus Forum, this is a really exciting time for the breed. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make this Forum a real success, and we look forward to seeing you all at the events throughout the duration. Don’t forget to register if you haven’t already! Here is your weekly news round-up from another busy week at the Society:

Show and sale news:

We told you about a red-hot day at the Carlisle Show and Sale last week, where both the Society sale and the Blelack sale achieved some magnificent prices. The day’s Supreme Champion and Senior Male Champion was Cheeklaw Parker R514 from DG & C Lucas of the Cheeklaw Herd in Berwickshire, with the top price coming in the Blelack sale with Blelack Toplass M847 going for an impressive 16,000gns. You can view the full report here: http://www.aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/a-sizzling-day-at-the-carlisle-show-and-sale/

There were also two shows from across the Irish sea over the last week, with the Ballymena Show and the Midleton Summer Show taking place. You can view the results from Ballymena at: http://www.aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/a-sizzling-day-at-the-carlisle-show-and-sale/ and from Midleton at: http://irishaberdeenangus.com/news/cheeklaw-bull-claims-first-irish-championship/

Youth Development Programme (YDP):

We were delighted to learn more about Andrew Adam of Forfar in Angus who is part of the UK and Ireland team for the World Angus Forum youth competition. Andrew is a young and talented farmer with a great passion for cattle, and you can learn more about him and his reaction to being selected as part of the team at: http://www.aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/world-angus-forum-2017-youth-competition-team-member-profile-andrew-adam/. We look forward to bringing you profiles on Calum Smith and John McCulloch in the next two weeks before the event kicks off.

We had another brilliant YDP workshop at Auchenhuive, Whiterashes, Aberdeenshire courtesy of Society Vice President Angela McGregor, and we look forward to bringing you an account of the day from one of the participants in the coming weeks.

World Angus Forum:

We’re delighted to have received great support from Pentland Land Rover who are supplying us with a vehicle that will travel the length and depth of the country for the duration of the World Angus Forum. The vehicle is set to be liveried up in the style of the Society and the World Angus Forum, so make sure to keep an eye out for it when we’re in your area!

With just two weeks to go until the Forum kicks off, it isn’t too late to register to attend if you haven’t already. You can attend as few or as many of the events as you like, from individual farm visits to the magnificent social programme. You can register and find out more information at: http://worldangusforum2017.com/registration-fees/, alternatively, just pick up the phone and give us a call – we’d hate for you to miss out on what will be a magnificent event.
