Trade was fast and strong throughout at Aberdeen and Northern Marts, Thainstone, yesterday for Aberdeen-Angus cross heifers and bullocks with the 461 bullocks on offer averaging 216.9p/kg with a top price of 258.6p/kg for a 348kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Auchtertyre Farms, Pluscarden and a gross top of £1310 for a 720kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Strathorn, Pitcaple.

The 191 Aberdeen-Angus heifers averaged 201.3p/kg to top at 234.2p/kg for a pair of 380kg Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Backhill of Thornton, Bourtie and £1200 gross for a 594kg Aberdeen Angus cross from North Retannach, Rothiemay.

In the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society sponsored show and sale, judged by Eric Buchan, Glenisla, Torphins, the overall championship went to a 626kg, 23-month-old steer from R J F and J M Seatter, Elsness, Sanday which sold at £1300 to the judge.

The reserve champion was a 690kg, 19-month-old steer from J and A Strathdee, North Retannach, Rothiemay and was knocked down at £1,360 to Emslie Partners, Little Barras, Fourdon.
