Stockjudging success for young Irish star Avril Crowe

16.10.2018

14 year old Avril Crowe from Aughakilfaughnan, Mohill, Co. Leitrim is one of the brightest young stars emerging from the Irish section of the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society, Youth Development Programme. The programme, which is run throughout Ireland & the UK each year, is aimed at developing the stockmanship skills of young people involved in farming through a series of workshops, seminars and events, with the selected finalists competing at the grand finale every September. At the most recent finals, held just last month in the UK, Avril secured a very well-deserved 2nd place in the stock judging category despite strong opposition from youngsters from both Ireland and the UK. Avril enjoyed the entire experience immensely and has very fond memories of her winning performance.

Avril, along with parents Kenton & Deirdre and older brother Stephen, run the Aughakil pedigree Aberdeen-Angus herd and are regular exhibitors on the summer show circuit. She has always had a passion for farming and pedigree cattle from a very young age and most recently, Avril won the junior section of the young handlers competition at the National Aberdeen-Angus Calf Show that was staged in Carrick-On-Shannon, Co. Leitrim last weekend. On the back of her recent run of great results, it look certain that Avril will definitely be one to watch in the youth section over the next few years.

Don’t forget that the 2019 Youth Development Programme will be rolled out throughout the country next Spring/Summer and all youngsters with an interest in showing or cattle are encouraged to attend.
