Friday update: 4th August 2017


It might not feel like it when we look outside the window at the weather, but we’re in the height of summer now and are as busy as ever here at the Society. Here’s your weekly Friday update of everything that’s been going on and what is in the pipeline for next week:

Show and Sale news:

At last weekend’s Banchory Show, there was a strong set of Aberdeen-Angus cattle on display where the accolade of overall champion eventually went to Cairnton Enterprise of K&M Howie with Tonley Eye Candy of Mark Wattie taking the reserve. The Aberdeen-Angus classes at the Turriff show were equally impressive and competitive, with the breed champion and reserve both coming from the Deveron Aberdeen-Angus herd, going to Hamish W Sclater’s Deveron Memphis Boy and Deveron Eldon respectively. The Nairn Show also took place in the last week up in the North of Scotland, and the Aberdeen-Angus champion at this year’s show was Ballindalloch Earl, while the reserve went to Lochdhu Cherry. View the full results from Nairn at:

At the Border Union Show in Kelso, the Aberdeen-Angus champion was selected by judge David Evans as Linton Gilbertines President of the Gordon Brooke Estate, with the bull going on to reserve in the inter-breed beef. The Aberdeen-Angus reserve champion was Stouphill Patsy of WD Allen.

We also have some important information about some sale cancellations that’ve materialised this week that we’d like to bring to your attention. The Stirling female sale which was scheduled for the 9th September has been cancelled, including the Kincardine cattle dispersal which was set to take place during the sale at United Auctions in Stirling due to the herd being sold on to a private buyer.  

Paper entries for the Royal County of Berkshire show closed earlier in the week, but there is still time to enter online. If you would like to submit entries, please do so by the 10th August by visiting the website at:

World Angus Forum photography:

We’re still basking in the brilliant memories that were made throughout the duration of the World Angus Forum, and will continue to share the great photography we got from throughout the full event. This week we shared a wonderful selection of images from the finale event at Netherton and HW Angus on Netherton Farm. Next week we’ll be bringing you some photographs from our day at Oxford, including a wonderful dinner at Exeter College, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

World Angus Forum Technical Conference:

We’re looking forward to sharing information from the technical conference ‘From consumption to conception’ with all members on our website and social platforms in the coming weeks. We’ll be sharing access to all the individual presentations from the speakers that contributed so brilliantly over the two days.

Stock wanted in Spain:

50 weaned registered heifers are needed for an existing customer in Spain. Animals must be in a checs health scheme, above breed average for growth, muscle and milk.
