Friday update: 2nd February 2018

02.02.2018

This weekend sees the first major show and sale for us here in the UK of 2018 when we attend United Auctions in Stirling. It’s set to be a great few days, and we’ve been busy preparing behind the scenes and look forward to seeing many of you there. Here is your weekly round-up of news and activity from within the Society.

Stirling Bull Sales and AGM

We would just like to give all members a final reminder that the Society AGM will take place at United Auctions on Sunday (4th February) at 3.45pm after the Aberdeen-Angus show of females and bulls. Please do come along to what is an important opportunity for Council and members to discuss key activity for the Society. After the bull sales and AGM, we look forward to welcoming those of you who have registered to attend Dunblane Hydro for our annual drinks reception and prize giving which is sure to be a lovely evening. If anyone has not yet registered, the price to do so is a subsidised £10 this year, and you can register by getting in touch with Angela at the office on [email protected] or by calling 01738 622477.

We would also like to inform you that there will be copies of the book published by the North East club on the heritage of the breed available for purchase, and Ken Howie will be around should anyone have any questions. To all members that will be taking part in the show and sale at Stirling over the coming days, we wish you all the best of luck and are excited to see what we are sure will be a great show of cattle on display.

English Premier Show and Sale

We reminded members this week that the closing date for entries to the English Premier Show and Sale at Newark is today (2nd February). Please be sure to complete the entry forms this evening if you haven’t done so already, which can be found along with more information via: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/english-premier-show-and-sale-entries-close-this-friday/

Stock for sale on the Society website

Yesterday we informed the membership of the decision that has been taking regarding the sharing of stock for sale on the website. We will be moving away from the use of Sell My Livestock to promote stock for sale, and will be moving to the method previously used of having posts shared directly on a dedicated section of the website. This is set to be implemented in the next couple of weeks, but for more information and what you should do in the meantime, visit: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/stock-for-sale-on-the-website/.

Irish pedigree sale dates

This week, we got a great insight and preview from Ireland to the pedigree bull and heifer sale dates that will take place in Spring 2018. The season opener will see just over 70 pedigree Aberdeen-Angus bulls go under the hammer at the Midland & Western Livestock Improvement Society Ltd spring sale at Carrick-on-Shannon mart, Carrick-On-Shannon, Co. Leitrim on Saturday, February 10th, and you can get more information and further dates for the diary at: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/irish-aberdeen-angus-association-2018-pedigree-bull-and-heifer-sale-dates/.

Aberdeen-Angus overseas

We brought you an interesting and insightful view to the world of Aberdeen-Angus in Estonia that we produced with the help of Sanna Turru who runs Lendermäe Aberdeen-Angus herd and also works as a cattle specialist for the Valtu Aberdeen-Angus herd. If you missed it the first time round, please be sure to check out the piece about the breed in Estonia, which is set to host this year’s European Angus Forum in June: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/aberdeen-angus-overseas-estonia/.

We wish you all a happy weekend and look forward to catching up with many of you over the coming days in Stirling.
