Friday update: 12th January 2018

12.01.2018

We’re fully back in to the swing of things now after the Christmas and New Year period, with a busy January in store for all at the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society. Here is this week’s Friday update of all activity, including preparation for the Stirling Bull Sales, delivery dates for the Review and all the need-to-know news.

Stirling Bull Sales

We’re looking forward to one of the first major shows and sales of the calendar year at United Auctions in Stirling at the start of February. We published the full programme of events on the Society website with all you need to know for attending this year, which can be found at: https://www.aberdeen-angus.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/attachments/ProgrammeOfEvents-Stirling-Bull-Sales-February-2018.pdf. This time last year saw the sale top at 18,000gns for the second placed Balmachie Jack Eric, while the Stirling February 2017 intermediate and overall champion was Cheeklaw Jake Eric R535 who sold for 10,000gns. We look forward to what this year’s event has to offer, and will be bringing the results to you live from the ring.

We would also welcome all members’ attendance at the annual Society AGM which will take place on the Sunday of the Bull Sales (4th February) at 3.45pm. This will present us with a great opportunity to round off 2017, look forward to 2018, gather opinions and hold discussions on all important matters.

The Review

All members and local clubs should receive their copy of the 100th edition of the Aberdeen-Angus Review in the coming week or two prior to the Stirling bull sales. It should be out for delivery towards the tail end of next week or the beginning of the following (week commencing 22nd January). The Society will also have a limited selection of copies of the Review at the Stirling Bull Sales on the 4th and 5th February.

Hayley Bruce heads to Australia

At the Gala Dinner in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh as part of the World Angus Forum, we announced the winner of the cookery competition and Aberdeen-Angus Scotch Beef award as Hayley Bruce of McBain’s Catering at Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club. We told you about the success of Hayley who is an exciting young chef at 20 years old last week, and this week we shared some more information about what she’ll be doing in Australia. She jetted off to spend time working with executive chef Rob Daniels & team at the prestigious Old Clare Hotel in Sydney. We wish Hayley all the best and look forward to catching up – read more at: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/hayley-bruce-heads-off-to-australia/.

The Warren Trophy 2017

We’d like to congratulate the Bishop family as the winners of this year’s coveted Warren Trophy, which is presented to the show exhibitor winning the most points for home bred stock at shows with Aberdeen-Angus classes held throughout England and Wales. We’ll be speaking to Rob Bishop of Warrenho Aberdeen-Angus to bring you a more detailed piece in the next week.

The staff in the office have been busy over the past few days preparing envelopes for distribution to members containing the annual accounts and voting papers. Please keep a look out for these arriving in the post in the next few days.
