Cheeklaw takes overall championship at February Stirling Bull Sales

After a long session in the centre of the ring in Stirling for the February Bull Sales, judge Liam Muir, Orkeny, found his champion in the form of this overall intermediate champion, Cheeklaw Jake Eric R353, from the Lucas family, a result made more important as the herd is due to be dispersed in October.

Brought out today by the Rettie family with Jamie on the halter, this one is born May 2015, this one is by Cardona Proud Punch L752, he’s out of the Tweedside Jewgal Eric Z083 daughter, Cheeklaw Jaye Erica G262. He carries a milk figure of +15, a positive direct calving ease and a self replacing index of +48.  

Continuing a Rettie family success story today was Richard Rettie at the halter of the junior and reserve overall champion, Wedderlie Evenkeel R268 from John and Marion Tilson and daughter Wanda Hobbs. Born September 2015, this one is by the home bred sire Wedderlie Kenyon N863 and is out of the Wedderlie Target L387 sired Wedderlie Evenart N929. With a milk figure of +18, this one also has a self replacing index of +36 and a terminal sire index of +30.

Prior to the overall championship, the senior championship went to the Fraser family with Idvies Evolution R691. This Rawburn Rommel E423 son is out of the Jeremy Eric of Bridgefoot daughter, Idvies Evara E219, who originates from the Blelack Evora line. This one carries a self replacing index of +46 and a terminal sire index of +36.

The reserve senior championship honours went to the Trustees of the late Gordon Brooke with Linton Gilbertines Prowler R944, a Rawburn Black Hawk L261 son which also carries Transformer and Lord Ross. With a self replacing index of +47 and a terminal index of +39, this one also carries an eye muscle area of +3.5.

Taking the reserve intermediate championship was Ewan Brewis with Eastfield Jockey R820, an April 2015-born Abberton Proud Nixen N297 son, himself an Ankonian Elixir son. This one is out of the Rawburn Edge J983 daughter, Eastfield Jessie N511. With a direct daughter calving ease, this one also carries a terminal sire index of +47 and a self replacing index of +60.

Meanwhile, the reserve junior honours went to Robin Orr at the halter of his daughter, Caroline’s bull Keirsbeath Phenomenal R538. This one is by Duncanziemere Edwin J311 and is out of the Blelack Telestar A240 daughter, Halbeath Pam H324, herself a daughter of Netherton Pam X28, who bred a female sold for 20,000gns at the Halbeath dispersal. He has a self replacing index of +45 and a direct calving ease of +2.2.
