Arms dispersal sees solid female demand

Arms dispersal sees solid female demand

09.11.2015

Thursday’s dispersal of the Arms herd of Aberdeen-Angus for Angus Smith saw a solid demand, with most of the cattle remaining in north and north-east Scotland and joining local pedigree herds.

Trade peaked at 4200gns with Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society chief executive Johnny Mackey pleased to see a good crowd of buyers present for the sale. “There was a resolute demand for this well bred herd, with the cows and heifers with calves at foot clearly doing an excellent job of rearing their offspring.

“Once again buyers were keen to secure well bred, hard working Aberdeen-Angus females for future pedigree breeding and that speaks volumes about the demand for the breed being seen across the UK at the moment. High health females are in demand as seen recently at Stirling too.”

Staged at United Auctions’ Huntly Mart the Arms dispersal was led by the April 2014-born calved heifer Arms Ginnie M709, a daughter of Newcairnie Elation J948 out of a homebred dam by Netherallan Paul Pershore E053. She sold with her heifer calf at foot by Scotsmill Enigma L073 and was knocked down to Angela MacGregor, Whiterashes, Aberdeen.

Next best at 3700gns was the very last lot of the sale, Arms Duchess P924, a daughter of Arms Barony K574. This October 2014-born maiden heifer is out of Arms Duchess L678, a Blacklaws Everest Z002 daughter and was the choice of Schivas Estate, Ellon.

Just shy of that at 3600gns was Arms Duchess M728, another daughter of Barony and this time out of Arms Duchess H455, a daughter of Netherallan Paul Pershore E053. She sold with a heifer calf at foot by Arms Elevation N773 and was bought by the Ritch family, East Fingask, Inverurie.

Two then sold at 2600gns, with the first being Arms Fanny M742. Sired by Newcairnie Elation J948 she is out of Arms Fanny K611, another by Paul Pershore and sold with her heifer calf, Arms Fanny R962, at foot. This one also found a new home with Messrs Ritch.

The other at this money was Arms Ginnie N836, a Netherallan Paul Pershore E053 daughter out of Arms Ginnie H458, a Blacklaws Everest Z002 daughter. Selling with her heifer calf at foot by Arms Barony K574 she was taken by G Miller, Birkenbower, Huntly.

And then making 2200gns was Arms Ginnie N791. This daughter of Paul Pershore is out of a Perus of the Moss daughter and sold to the Ritch family with her bull calf at foot.

Averages; 50 cows with calves at foot £1422, 18 heifers with calves at foot £1537.94, 20 in-calf heifers £1215.90, one maiden heifer £3885 (United Auctions).
