It’s been a big week at the Society, with the headline activity being the autumn Stirling Bull Sales which is always a great occasion each year. We’ve also had lots of activity surrounding the development of the 100th edition of the Review, here is your weekly round-up of all the news you need to know.
Stirling Bull Sales:
We brought you the report from what was another exciting few days at in Stirling for the autumn Stirling Bull Sales. Firstly, we’d like to acknowledge that we are aware that there was a degree of displeasure amongst some of the membership in regard to the levels of coverage. We are working with all parties to ensure that measures are put in place to provide the best levels of coverage moving forward, and we always appreciate constructive criticism.
The Sales themselves were a great success, with a top bid of 17,000gns for the overall male champion Linton Gilbertines President who went to Caroline Orr of the Keirsbeath Herd in Dunfermline and Gordon Gray of Selkirk in a partnership. The Aberdeen-Angus sale saw 77% clearance, averaging out at £5,063. Cheeklaw Herd Dispersal:
The Stirling Bull Sales featured the much-anticipated dispersal of the Cheeklaw Herd after the difficult decision was taken by the Lucas family to retire. Crowds turned out in their numbers from all over the UK and Ireland for the dispersal which was a great success. 28 cows with calves at foot averaged £6,330, nine in-calf cows averaged £3,418, seven in-calf heifers averaged £4,935 and 17 maiden heifers averaged £4,459. Joint honours at bids of20,000gns were achieved for Cheeklaw Pru who went to Albert De Cogan of Mogeely Aberdeen-Angus and Cheeklaw Pride who was bought by K McOscar of Co Tyrone. The Review:
We put out the message to the regional clubs in the last week for any some information to help pull together the Review, including anything to be included in the obituaries section, and there will also be a request sent out for news content to be used in a section of the publication for each regional area. Please keep an eye out for the request, your co-operation will be much appreciated. The advert space is filling up quickly so thank you to those who’ve filled in their booking forms and secured their space. World Angus Forum memories:
