Cookery competition – a great opportunity to learn from one of Scotland’s top chefs

11.05.2017

Earlier on in the week, we brought you some more information about the 1st prize for our upcoming cookery competition which will see young chefs from all over Scotland compete against their peers in a competition to create a great dish that best compliments the use of Aberdeen-Angus Scotch Beef PGI. The overall winner will spend two weeks at the Marina Social in Dubai, but there is a magnificent prize on offer for the two competition runners-up as well.

The two runners-up will get the chance to spend a week’s placement in Scottish chef Jak O’Donnell’s The Sisters restaurants in Glasgow, where they will get the chance to work with Jak and her colleagues and gain some great experience that can stand them in good stead for their future careers. The Sisters restaurants are located in Kelvingrove and Jordanhill in Glasgow and have been running successfully for 17 years. Jak and her team have established two restaurants that people flock to for a ‘true taste of Scotland in the heart of Glasgow’. Jak prides herself on providing customers with traditional Scottish cuisine, prepared to the best possible standard, so this presents the competition entrants with a chance to take some real value from their experience, from someone who has been at the top of the Scottish restaurant industry for some time. You can find out more about the Sisters Restaurants at: http://thesisters.co.uk/index.php

After the cook-off at Braehead foods in Kilmarnock on 16th May, the 3 finalists will be invited to the World Angus Forum 2017 Gala Dinner at the National Museum of Scotlandin Edinburgh on Monday 26th June. At this event, they will prepare canapes for attendees and the winning canapes will be served at the Forum’s Gala Dinner. We’d like to thank Scotbeef, QMS and Braehead Foods for helping us make the cookery competition possible. Without their support and sponsorship, these aspiring young chefs wouldn’t have the chance to compete against each other for the opportunity to win some experiences that could be so beneficial to their future careers.
