It’s been yet another packed week for the Society with lots going on from Review planning and some top quality calf shows, to preparation for this week’s Stars of the Future Calf Show at Stirling. Here is your weekly round-up to ensure nothing slipped under your radar:

Show and Sale News:

On Monday we brought you a full report of the 2017 Borderway Agri Expo, which was described by judge Alan Lawson and Society President Alex Sanger as one of the best shows of recent years, that all exhibitors can be extremely proud of. With a great show of cattle competing across all classes, Mr Lawson gave his top honours to McCornick Kerry’s Boy S215 of Martin McCornick from Boreland Farm, a very impressive yearling bull MCornick Kedge M797 out of McCornick Kerry P000. The Northern Ireland Aberdeen-Angus club held its 13th annual Calf Show at Dungannon, where judge David Lucas was on hand to crown Birches Lady Holly T301 of the renowned Birches Herd as the day’s overall champion. Upon presenting the prestigious JB Lamb Memorial Cup to the Champion, David Lucas of Berwickshire said: ‘’This is a lovely heifer, and a very worthy winner. She was one of nine entries in her class and has stood out all day. The champion is feminine and oozes breed character, and will mature into a super breeding female.’’ If you’d like to read more from Dungannon including results from all classes involved, visit: http://www.aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/show-news/birches-herd-claims-calf-show-honours-ni-club-annual-calf-show/

We brought you some updates on Facebook from Agrifest South West 2017 which incorporated Smithfield this year, taking place at Westpoint Arena, the home of the Devon County Show. Taking the acclaim as Supreme Pedigree Native Calf Champion was Warrenho Erica T668 of AE & CR Bishop’s Warrenho Angus Herd. We unfortunately couldn’t bring any live coverage from Agrifest as 4G and wifi availability made it impossible, but we look forward to bringing more live coverage and different angles in the near future.

This Saturday (11th November) sees the much-anticipated Stars of the Future Calf Show at United Auctions in Stirling. With some great cattle set to feature in a selection of hotly contested classes, we look forward to reporting on all the action and hopefully seeing many of you there. The Black Beauty Bonanza is also on the horizon, taking place on Friday 17th November. This year’s show features an impressive 125 entries from a record 37 exhibitors. You can view the comprehensive preview of the event at Thainstone, Inverurie which is sponsored by Glenrinnes Estate at: http://www.aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/show-news/entry-boost-for-black-beauty-bonanza-preview/

The Review 100th Edition:

We brought you the news that the deadline to submit your booking forms for advertising in the January 2018 100th Edition of the Review has been extended to 17th November. Please not, that this is not the deadline for having your advert designs finalised. As long as booking forms are submitted on time, you still have plenty of time to submit advert content and Denvir will liaise directly with each individual about those deadlines. This year’s edition will be kept by many for years to come as a landmark publication, so don’t miss out on your chance to advertise. The booking form can be found at: http://www.aberdeen-angus.co.uk/assets/2017/A-A-AdvertisingBookingForm-Final.pdf

Other news:

We’d like to once again extend our richest congratulations to Willie and Catherine McLaren on their 60th wedding anniversary. All at the Society would like to thank them for their work and support over the years, and wish them all the best on this wonderful occasion.

Coming up next week, we look forward to bringing you some interesting stories, including a profile piece with Andrew Hamill, the winner of the junior section of this year’s Youth Development Programme, and an update from Martin McCornick after his recent successes at Stirling and the Borderway Agri Expo which we’re sure you will all enjoy.

From all at the Society, have a great weekend!
