The Irish Aberdeen-Angus Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Mack Crowe, Broomstreet, Mohill, Co. Leitrim to the role of President, following on from the Association’s AGM which was held in the last week of February.

Mack has a long and distinguished history with the Aberdeen-Angus breed in Ireland having completed several terms on council as well as being actively involved in the organisation and planning of some of the biggest Aberdeen-Angus events each year such as the National Ploughing Championships and the All-Ireland Aberdeen-Angus Finals. Mack is also owner of the pedigree Broomstreet Aberdeen-Angus herd, which was founded in 1989 and currently stands at 8 cows and followers. The herd won the supreme Aberdeen-Angus championship at the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) Spring Show in 1992 (the biggest agricultural show of the time) and in more recent times has introduced several red-carrier bloodlines to the herd which are proving to be very popular, particularly to the export market.

In addition, to his Aberdeen-Angus interests, Mack, alongside son Alan, also operates the very successful and well-known wood, timber and fencing business ‘Crowe’s Sawmills’ which specializes in fencing, gates, doors, decking and other high-end timber products.

Speaking at the recent pedigree bull sales at Carrick-on-Shannon, Mack gave his reaction to taking up the position of President: ‘I would like to sincerely thank all council members for the honour of being elected President of the Irish Aberdeen-Angus Association and I am looking forward to building on the successes of the World Angus Forum which visited Ireland last summer’. During his upcoming Presidential term, Mack is keen to make headway on the ongoing issue of DNA parentage verification, commenting ‘I am committed to driving the roll-out of DNA testing for ALL pedigree Aberdeen-Angus calves in 2018. This will be of huge benefit to both breeder and purchaser of pedigree Aberdeen-Angus stock each season and will also help serve to protect the integrity and reliability of our herd book’.

Mack went on to wish the membership well for the coming year and is looking forward to meeting as many breeders as possible at the various sales and shows across the country in the weeks ahead.

Further appointments to the 2018 Presidential team were also ratified at the recent Irish AGM with John McEnroe of the Liss Aberdeen-Angus herd taking on the role of Vice-President of the Association whilst Eustace Burke of the Clontead Aberdeen-Angus herd was elected in the position of Junior Vice-President of the Association.
