Keep up with live judging action from the last ever Royal Show

Well the time has come to say goodbye to the Royal Show.

It’s a shame in many ways, but many exhibitors aren’t suprised by it’s demise at all.

It may be the end, but as the live coverage of the Royal Highland Show was such a huge success, we’re hoping to bring you the same for tomorrow’s judging. The action kicks off at 9am and the classes and standard looks strong, so fingers crossed the breed has yet another successful show. We’ve had a pretty good run in the interbreed of late, so who knows what this year will bring!!

Entries for this year's Royal Highland and Royal Show are strong for the Aberdeen-Angus breed

Entries for the Royal Highland Show at the end of next month are pretty healthy with 110 Aberdeen-Angus cattle entered. Taking care of proceedings on judging day will be Alistair Fraser from the Idvies herd.

As always the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society will have a large rpesence at the show and we welcome you all to the stand throughout the course of the show.

It also looks like the Royal Show will be pulling in good numbers, as they have 94 Aberdeen-Angus entered. There were rumours of good numbers in all cattle classes following the announcement that this year would be the last Royal Show, so let’s hope we have a good following on the day. Judging the Angus classes will be Alistair Clark, Duncanziemere.

Bernard Mairs' dispersal of his show winning herd topped at 9000gns last week for a two year old heifer and saw semen selling for 200gns.

A massive crowd turned out last Friday (April 24th) for the dispersal sale of noted Aberdeen-Angus breeder and showman Bernard Mairs, Ballyclare, held at the pedigree Sales Arena, Moira.

Bernard has established a showing record that has seen his scoop many show titles both at home in Ireland and at the Royal and Royal Highland shows.

And although Limousin cattle were also on offer, it was the Aberdeen-Angus cattle that topped the day’s trade. Sale leader was the two year old heifer Croftburn Blackbird H331, by TLA Northern Samurai out of Coldstream Blackbird 62G. She sold for 9000gns to new breeder Trevor Wallace, Dromore (this is believed to be an Aberdeen-Angus female record in Northern Ireland).

Selling at 5200gns to another new breeder Mike Frazer, Templepatrick (buyer of top priced female and bull at Dungannon recently) was Croftburn Blackbird G313. This time out of Bernard’s show cow Huxton Blackbird B081, she is sired by Netherton Kular D318, a son of Netherton Royal sovereign A 072.

Trevor Wallace was back in action at 5100gns securing the top show cow Huxton Blackbird B081. By Rawburn El Cid Z432 out of Rawburn Blackbird was orginally bought in 2004 as an in calf heifer at the Border sale for 12,000gns. she went on to win a handful of championships and first prize tickets.

The first lot in the ring Skaill Diana E249 by Blelack Blackstock out of Skaill Diana A253 went to Ernie Hall, Ballclare, for 4000gns, while Croftburn Blackbrd H545, another Netherton Kular daughter sold at 3700gns to Mike Frazer.

Trade for Aberdeen-Angus semen was also brisk with straws of Ranui Impact selling for 200gns and Dalrene Cruz semen selling for 150gns.

Auctioneers: R A Noble and Co, Clogher.
