Oakchurch Aberdeen-Angus dominate Southern England Calf Show
The 2009 Southern England Calf Show saw record entries with 74 calves from across the South of England and the Midlands. A grand number of spectators were present to see the tremendous quality of calves that were forward including the Society President, William McLaren. Judge for the day was Adrian Johnson from the Yearsley Herd in Yorkshire, who conducted the mammoth judging task with ease.
Overall champion on the day came from Jeremy Price from Hereford on his Southern England Calf show debut. His champion was the January born heifer Oakchurch Destiny J110 which had previously picked up the female championship. This very stylish heifer is sired by Rawburn Rommell E423 and out of Ballyheather Dolly.

Supreme champion
The reserve overall championship went to another exhibitor on their first visit to this calf show, Paul and Kirsty Westaway of Melview Farming from Gloucestershire. Their heifer Melview Georgie J017 had won the first split of the Jan/Feb 09 heifer class and also took the reserve female championship. Sired by Nightingale Kruncher, she is out of their show cow Tegnose Geraldine.

Male champion
The Price family also took the male championship making it a very good day for the West Mercia Club chairman. The February born Oakchurch Diplomat J118 had beaten off strong competition with 13 entries in the Jan/Feb 09 bull class. Sired by Oakchurch Dominator G035, he is out of the 2007 Royal Show Female Champion, Oakchurch Red Delia F021.
Taking the reserve male championship were regular calf show enthusiasts, Lockerley Hall Farms, Hampshire. Their March-born bull calf, Lockerley Klassic J044 was fresh from gaining a second at the National Calf Show in Carlisle last week. This sweet baby bull was sired by Lockerley Kid Poker G753 and out of the famous Kind Princess line at Lockerley.

I wonder if anyone can help me?
I am a 2nd year student in animal behaviour and welfare at Merrist Wood looking into livestock market closures and the potential impacts on animal welfare of calves.
If anyone on this forum takes calves to market I would be hugely grateful if you could complete my 10 minute survey via the following link:

Thanks so much.
