Native Breeds Championships attracts more than 100 entries

Organisers of the Native Breeds Championships would like to extend a warm welcome to their first ever show to be held at the People’s Park, Portadown next Saturday 18th September.

More than 100 cattle are entered representing some of the best known Aberdeen Angus, Beef Shorthorn and Hereford breeder’s in the Province, and will compete for the coveted title of the “Supreme Native Breeds Champion”.

There will be a full range of showing classes in each breed section with Albert De Cogan travelling from County Cork to place the Aberdeen Angus section. Judging will kick off at 10.30am sharp.

In addition to this there will be a hotly contended Young Handlers section which will feature up and coming experts in all breeds aged between 10 and 20 years of age. Ballymena based John Currie will have the task of judging the Supreme Championship awards and Young Handler section.

The committee are delighted to have received generous sponsorship from Ulster Bank and Donnelly Bros, further supported by many local business owners who have also pledged their support.

Secretary Brian McLaughlin and Alderman Sidney Anderson are delighted to welcome the Native Breeds Championships for their first ever show at the event and congratulate James Graham on having an entry of 100 cattle.

The driving force behind the Native Breeds Championships has been to promote all that Aberdeen Angus, Beef Shorthorn and Hereford cattle have to offer in today’s competitive marketplace. To reinforce this beef from all three breeds will be in the menu with Richhill based butchers “Greenmount Meats” cooking up a treat for visitors to the park..
