Knockadrinan Bell wins champion at Tullamore

Over 60,000 spectators attended the Tullamore Show on Sunday 9^th August at its new location at Blueball, Tullamore in the centre of Ireland .The show is regarded as the leading National Livestock Show in Ireland. It was cancelled for the past two years because of poor weather conditions. This year’s event was held in ideal conditions and attracted an entry of over 90 Angus cattle.

On his first visit to Tullamore Show breed society president, William McLaren Junior, found an easy overall Angus Champion in the stunning and stylish four month old heifer  Knockadrinan Bell J460 by Knockadrinan Precise G 398 and out of Knockadrinan Bell A190. This was her first major show outing since taking the overall interbreed champion and  All Ireland National Champion at Clogher Valley Show just 10 days previously. She was shown by her breeder Tom Reynolds, Knockadrinan herd in County Leitrim.

The reserve overall champion and reserve Female was John and Kate Tait’s four year old cow Westallen Black Belinda sired By Tonroe Udi and out of Westallen Black Bunty. She was shown with her 10 month old bull calf Westallen Black Buck, sired by Cheeklaw Eirwyn D165. The Westallen herd is based at Midleton in County Cork.

The male champion Angus was Bleleck Elijah, shown by his owners Owen McFadden and Angela Armstrong-McFadden, Gibbstown, Navan, Co Meath This April 2007 bull was purchased at Perth in February this year.This was his second show outing in Ireland having been overall Angus champion at Mullingar Show on 12^th July. He was bred in Scotland by Neil Massie. His sire is Nightengale Ernie and dam is Blelaeck Eliza.

The reserve male champion was the 11 month old Irish Angus Moydrum Eagle Star, bred locally by Michael Flanagan, Moydrum Castle herd, Athlone. His sire was the Scottish bred Cardona Blackstar.
