Carlisle Aberdeen-Angus takes two top bids of 2800gns

Two bulls led a small entry of Aberdeen-Angus males and females on offer at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, on Wednesday 7th October with a top bid of 2800gns.

Joint sale leader and champion under judge Tony Miller, Kettlebaston, Suffolk, was Moncur Entertainer H110 from GC Taylor Farms, Inchture, Perthshire. By the 2008 RHS male champion Moncur Jacob Eric, this April 2008-born bull is out of the Blelack Black Bellringer Y381 daughter Moncur Edwina D049. With a terminal index of +23, a self replacing index of +25 and a milk figure of +9, he sold for 2800gns to J Forrest, Lauder, Berwickshire.

At the same money the reserve male champion, again from GC Taylor Farms, sold to J Carruthers and Son, Annan, Dumfriesshire. By the 2007 RHS male champion Curzon Entertainer C088, Moncur Fortune H102 is out of Moncur Fifi C040, another Bellringer daughter.

Next at 1800gns was the third prize Wedderlie Possability H603 from John and Marion Tilson (T/A J and J Campbell), Gordon, Berwickshire. Sired by Wedderlie Black Boss E950 and out of the Tui Blackmark daughter Wedderlie Popmark, this March 2008-born bull has a terminal index of +22, a self replacing index of +34 and a milk figure of +15. He sold to P McDonald, Olney, Bucks.

Leading female trade was Catriona McKeane, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire. Her first at 2000gns was Craigbeck Eloise G413, a daughter of Ballavitchel Red Eriksson B281 out of the Duke of Aynho daughter Craigbeck Elaine C145. She was sold having run with Shadwell Red Jay Eric F259 to Messrs Pirie, Banchory, Kincardineshire.

For the same money, Mrs McKeane sold Craigbeck Elf G404, another Red Eriksson daughter this time out of the Woodvale Black Bud B404 daughter Craigbeck Elphine D250. She also sold to Messrs Pirie.

The female and reserve overall champion Winwick Paris F082 from DW German, Huntongdon, Cambs, sold for 1500gns to previous bull purchaser P McDonald. Sired by Wicken of Haymount, she is out of Winwick Pollyanna D056 and sold having run with Winwick Viceroy.
