Aberdeen-Angus cross wins St Boswells Primestock Show

Taking the championship in yesterday’s Christmas primestock show at St Boswells Market was local producer M V Fleming, Mosstower, with a homebred Aberdeen-Angus steer which weighed 550kg and sold at 405p/kg. This was the first time in quite a few years an Aberdeen-Angus had knocked a Limousin off the top championship spot. The steer is by Rawburn Esparto, a son of Rawburn Duke Argyll.

Nice to see an Angus stand out among continentals. We’ve a breed that grows, converts and weighs alongside any other, for far less production cost. Lets hope commercial breeders and finishers take an open minded look at traits, an this reflects in Angus bull sales at Stirling Feb 2010 and beyond. Any chance you could track a photo down or add a link to let us see this Angus champion ? thanks

lets hope the irish aberdeen angus heifer wins smithfield supposed to be a hot favorite !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Robert – thanks for your comment no picture I’m afraid unless St Boswells can send me anything but nothing was sent out with a press release – I simply learnt the information from another source!
