Strong offerings of Aberdeen-Angus males and females at October sales

Next month’s Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society sales at Carlisle (2 October) and Stirling (19 October) offers both new and existing breeders the opportunity to source stock from some of the breed’s leading herds, including females from a number of herd reductions and drafts.

First up at Carlisle is an offering of 25 breeding bulls well suited to use on a variety of cow types, explains the Society’s assistant secretary Neil Caul. “This sale gives buyers the chance to source bulls from many leading herds, many with performance figures to match their breeding.

In addition the Carlisle sale sees a major reduction of the Jones family’s Rull herd, a draft from the Moores family’s The Moss herd and a major reduction of the Saville herd for the Medley family.

On top of that Caroline Fletcher is offering a draft from her Barwise herd and a draft from Alastair Beattie’s Lochmaben herd is forward too.

Mr Caul says all of these female drafts offer something for new and established breeders, with strength in depth offered in every herd putting females forward for sale. “Many of the female families on offer represent the best of UK Angus breeding coupled with some of the top lines in the breed internationally too,” he added.

Meanwhile at Stirling later in the month breeders will offer 63 bulls alongside drafts of females from a number of top herd and the complete herd sale of John Loftus’ Weeton herd.

Mr Caul says once again the cattle on offer from all breeders at Stirling will be well suited to many systems. “No matter where in the UK or Ireland you farm there is an Angus suited to your faming system and capable of delivering you top quality calves to earn the premium prices the breed is now well known for both in the prime and store sales rings.”
