Heifers to the fore at Monmouth Show

26.08.2016

A pair of yearling heifers swept all before them at this year’s Monmouth Show, Judge Catriona Sutherland, from the Abberton herd, had an excellent selection of cattle to judge from four exhibitors and found her champions in the 2015-born heifer class.

Taking the breed and female championship was Grace Denning leading Temple Farms’ Temple Rosebud R653. This heifer has won her class at several shows including Gillingham and Shaftesbury, Dunster and Yeovil. Meanwhile, the reserve breed and female championship was Ellie Westaway’s heifer Inkpen Effie R204. This one is having a great autumn having been female champion at Pembroke Show earlier in the month.

Kathryn Ball took the honours in the male championship with Elmview Elite R170. This one has taken strong placings at Royal Three Counties and Royal Welsh Show, as well as winning his class at North Somerset Show.

Aberdeen-Angus YDP also had another triumph later in the day when Grace Denning won the champion young handler in the interbreed beef section, rounding off a great day at this key show on the English/Welsh Border.
