Leading the way at Armagh Show at the weekend under judge Brian Clark of the Duncanziemre herd, Ayrshire, was the Matchett family of Gail, Nigel, Sam and Sarah with their young cow Birches Lady Heather M026. This one is a daughter of the Irish imported herd sire Carrigroe Fred and was champion at Armagh last year as a two year old heifer. She then went on to stand reserve overall champion under Simmental breeder Billy Robson. 

Reserve to her was Alwyn and Carol Armour and Sons with Woodvale Lady Jane N504. Born March 2013, she’s by Wedderlie Net Profit E916 and is out of a Woodpile Mr Awesome E207 daughter. She was shown with her Netherton Mr Americano M203 heifer calf at foot. 

The Matchett family carried on their success at the show as YDP enthusiast Sam Matchett took the champion young handlers spot.
