AAQB continues to see demand grow

A recent report in Farm Week states that more farmers are adding value to their businesses by joining the producer co-operative Aberdeen-Angus Quality Beef which is seeing demand continue to grow for quality Angus beef.

Founded for farmers for the benefit of farmers, group chairman Hugh McCollum says the producer co-operative has consistently paid a bonus to its members for Aberdeen-angus sired cattle. “Over the last 11 years a supply chain partnership has been built up with Foyle Meats who process cattle for AAQB members each week at their Omagh and Foyle plants.

“The supply chain continues to supply Tesco NI fresh meat counters, which have featured Aberdeen-Angus beef continuously for nine years.”

He told the recent AGM that marketing through AAQB has many advantages, not leas the services of the business development manager Eamon Kelly, who visits members’ farmers and attends meat plants on a regular basis.

In recognition of the beef being included in the Tesco finest range, the group introduced the AAQB challenge Cup to be awarded to the top performing Tesco Ni store. “The sheer enthusiasm, dedication and belief of the winning team at the fresh meat counter in Tesco Newtonbreda was most impressive,” commented Mr McCcollum.

Continuing, Mr McCollum, who farms near Limavady, revealed that new markets for NI Aberdeen-Angus beef are currently being developed by Foyle Meats in the UK and Europe. “Their success and positive response to Aberdeen-Angus beef from this small, green province is great news for our members. It also means that applications from farmers who are committed to producing stock sired by registered Aberdeen-Angus bulls will be most welcome.”
