World Angus Forum 2017 – A social programme packed with magnificent events

02.05.2017

In the year where the World Angus Forum is returning to the home of the breed, there’s an exciting programme of social events for attendees to enjoy alongside the national tours, herd visits and Technical Conference.

Each national leg of the World Angus Forum is filled with great social and tourism activities to accompany all the herd and show visits. On the English Tour, attendees will get the chance to visit the world-famous English Heritage and Unesco site at Stonehenge. They’ll also get the chance to spend three nights in the historic city of Oxford and dine in style at the awe-inspiring Exeter College, before visiting the JCB factory and Alnwick Castle and Gardens. The English Tour will also take in a visit to the award-winning Daylesford Organics farm and farm shop enjoying a guided tour of one of the UK’s most sustainable organic farms.

Alongside attending the All Ireland Championship at Newry Show, attendees on the Irish Tour will get to visit the Belfast Titanic Centre on the site of the former Harland & Wolff shipyard in the city’s Titanic Quarter where the original ship was built. They will also get the chance to visit the world-famous Guinness Brewery in Dublin to hear the tale of Ireland’s most famous and celebrated beer.

The final leg of the World Angus Forum is the Scottish Tour, where attendees will get to visit Abbotsford House, the home of novelist, playwright and poet, Sir Walter Scott, before being treated to the Taste of the Highlands lunch and whisky tasting. The Scottish Tour will also take in the visit to Glamis Castle to view the unveiling of the memorial to Hugh Watson, founding breeder of Aberdeen-Angus, alongside visits to Stirling Castle and a Civic reception on the banks of the River Tay at Discovery Point.

Aside from the individual national tours, there is a magnificent social programme in Edinburgh as part of the official World Forum. The first event is the Welcome Reception on 21st June at the historic Caledonian Hotel, which will be a great opportunity to connect with friends and colleagues from all over the world, and will be a great way to begin the Forum. One of the main social events, ‘A Taste of Scotch’, will then be held at the world-famous Murrayfield Stadium, home of the Scottish Rugby Union on the 23rd June. This will involve some great food and entertainment in what is a brilliant setting. Not to be missed is the Gala Dinner which will take place on 26th June at the National Museum of Scotland, which is one of Edinburgh’s most stunning venues, and will be a great celebration of the breed and the Forum.

Finally, we will be rounding up The World Angus Forum 2017 with a hearty farewell dinner, cocktails and ceilidh at Netherton Farm to give our global delegates a memorable send-off and cement long term friendships.
