Setting an all time record average, this year’s February sale has averaged £5047.67 for 146 bulls sold. This time last year the sale averaged £4921.16 for 129 bulls sold, so it’s been an incredibly pleasing sale for the Society and it’s breedeers today. Overall demand for well fleshed, correct bulls is strong with commercial producers looking for bulls with good figures to match.

Wedderlie get a first prize bull away at 9000gns

One of the babies of the Wedderlie team, Wedderlie Erobb H754 (lot 298) and winner of the last class of bulls has gone at 9000gns. This one is by Wedderlie Black Boss E950 and is out of a Tui Bon daughter and knocked down to Kenny Pratt, Aberdeenshire.

A third prize bull from Tom Rennie, Mosston Muir Lord Inverness H212 by Lord Ringo out of the Lady Isla line has gone at 5200gns to Longford Farms, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

The second to last bull in the catalogue from the “crisp man” Russell Taylor as David Leggat has just called him, Moncur Edgar H116 has just gone at 4000gns and heads to Denmark.

That’s it for today as the last bull in the ring fails to sell at 1400gns. That’s it for Angus trade, I’ll try and bring you an average as soon as possible.

Haymount sell at 12,000gns

The best so far from Tom Arnott of Haymount, Haymount Womanizer H836, the first bull to be offered by the 17,000gns Cardona Edwin E367. He is out of a Cardona Eagle daughter and heads to Howard Quayle’s Balavitchel herd on the Isle of Mann.

From Alan Rennie, Mosston Muir Elrick H208 (lot 290) has sold for 5600gns. This one is by Warrenho Emperor D141 out of a Drumcrow Lagoon daughter and heads to Duns, Berwickshire, with G Fullerton. At 5500gns Wedderlie Nonpluss H687 (lot 293) by Aynho Rossiter Eric B125 has followed selling to B and J Menzies Ballinluig, Perthshire. And following a Wedderlie theme, a son of Wedderlie Eroseric C618, Lorabar Prince Casper H333 (lot 294) from Colin and Stuart Montgomery has sold at 5000gns to Scott Harcus, Orkney.

It appears we’re on a good roll at the moment with another cracker from the Massie family. This one, Blelack Junor Eric H100 (lot 295), by Nightingale Defiance out of a Picasso daughter has gone at 8000gns to JM Forbes and Sons, Nairn.

Another Rommel son from Alistair Fraser Idvies Federal H391 (lot 263) has gone at 9000gns to AR Mathers and Sons, Inverurie. With a first prize ticket on him, he is out of Idvies Frances A077 and has a SRI of +40 with a milk figure of +11.

Another from David Ismail, Fordel Elgin H654 (lot 266), by Blelack Kiwi D002 out of Fordel Evita D689 has gone at 7500gns to JP Gray, Alnwick.

From Richard and Carol Rettie, Foulness Marksman H061 (lot 278), bred by Chris Page, has sold for 5500gns to the McCombie family. This one is by Foulness Gray Boy out of a Rawburn Lord Ross daughter.

The fifth prize bull Blackhaugh Every Time H842, homebred on both sides going back to Leachman Right Time, has gone at 6000gns to Mr A Carter, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Just after that John Lascelles has sold Balmachie Rambler H053 (lot 257), a second prize bull by Mytty In Focus out of Prairielane 8116 Rosebud sold to Robisnon Farms, Chathill, Northumberland.

What a day for Blelack……their next bull (lot 226) Blelack Prince H008 has just gone at 10,000gns. Yet another son of the stock bull Netherallan Peter Pershore, this time out of the Blackstock daughter Blelack Princess C682. This one has a milk figure of +10 and a SRI of +46. He heads to Martin French, Islay.

And following another solid run from Dinar Estates, David Ismail has sold Fordel Exeter H581, a fordel Eritrea E810 son for 5200gns. This one has a SRI of +43 and sold to J Tait and Sons, Duns, Berwickshire.

From John Watson, Ashfield Jumbo H593 9lot 246), homebred on both sides has gone at 5000gns to JJM Sutherland and Son, Thurso, Caithness and at 5200gns Auchengray Eminent H642 from the Dunlop’s has gone to GA Stewart, Earlston, Berwickshire.

From Jim Logan, Galawater Lord Randolph H500 (lot 249), another powerful son of Rawburn Elysium F547 out of an Ankonian Elixir sdaughter, has gone at 9500gns to Ranald Pottinger, Caithness.

John Elliot’s first prize Elliot Dam Buster H852 (lot 210) by Rawburn Lord Ross C216 has just gone at 7500gns. This one is out of Elliot Delia, a Hoff Limited Edition daughter and heads to Hall and Sons, Pinner, Middlesex.

The next from Robbie Galloway, Cardona Jake Eric H579 (lot 213) by Eastfield Fusilier D373 out of a Blacksmith daughter has gone at 5000gns to RG Barbour and Sons, Jedburgh.

At 7500gns Jim Logan has just sold Galawater Bruno H440 (lot 216), a Rawburn Elysium son out of a Wedderlie Ebony B407 daughter to john fleming for his Stairhaven herd, Newton Stewart.

Following that the Massies were in the money again selling Blelack Badger H000 (lot 218), a Nightingale Definace E264 son out of a Lord Hornblower daughter, selling at 6500gns to Culfargie Estates, Balbeggie, Perth.

At 7000gns Victor Dobson of the Water End herd, East Yorkshire, has just bought Blelack Evergreat H003, a Blackstock daughter out of Blelack Evora Z491.

Picking up a steady trade for intermediate bulls is Alistair Fraser, selling a Rommel son Idvies euris H379 out of a Castle of Mey Elscot daughter for 12,000gns. This one has a SRI of +39 and a TI of +36 and sold to Dermot O’Brien, Co Kerry.

Shortly after Hamish Sclater sold Deveron Elgin H252, a son of Bramley Grange Black brindley D064 out of the successful Elize line. This one went at 6000gns and heads to Newcairnie.

At 5200gns the highest SRI figured bull in the book (+57) Tofts Ermarkor H258 from Playfair Farms goes.
