All roads led to Roscrea on September 19th where a who’s who of Aberdeen-Angus breeders assembled to purchase one of the choice lots from the renowned Goulding Genetics which was on offer. Breeders travelled from as far afield as Scotland, England and Northern Ireland and they were not to be disappointed by the quality of cattle on offer.

Sale leader was the February 2008 born heifer, Goulding Exotic Winnie, out of Darima Winnie, and sired by Ankonian Elixir 100. This heifer combined the power and style of her dam with the renowned performance of her now legendary sire. A hard fought bidding war was eventually won by Rory Best, Newry, Co Down, when he secured this prize animal for €6700.

Goulding Exotic Winnie

Not deterred by a battle when playing hooker for Ireland or Ulster Rory Best was to go on and buy a further 6 lots. Four of these females were to originate from the Goulding Herd and included females sired by Dalrene Cruz, Aynho Rossiter Eric B125 and Netherton Eastern Cruz combined with the superb female genetics offered by their dams Darima Princess C159, Darima Patriot Z082 and Darima Ester A115. The remaining two lots were to be purchased from Doreen Corridan who was dispersing her herd.

Next top selling at €5000 was Goulding E Winnie a November 2008 heifer out of the much in demand Darima Winnie and sired by Tonroe Udi. This heifer had style from head to toe and possesses some of the most sought after genetics in Ireland. Not deterred by failing to meet the reserve in the ring Cyril Nagle, Doolin, Co Clare was to successful secure this heifer after the sale.

Goulding E Winnie

At €3750, Mark Clement, Ballyronan, Co Derry secured Goulding E Patriot 199, a November 2008 born heifer, out of Darima Patriot Z082 and sired by Aynho Rossiter Eric B125. This heifer won numerous tickets during the year when she formed part of the Goulding show team.

Goulding E Patriot

In total 15 lots were sold to Northern Ireland customers.

The demand for bulls was not as brisk as the trade for females however Goulding Eamon 190, a November born bull, out of Darima Ester A115 and sired by Netherton Eastern Cruz was knocked down at €2000. Robert Mooney, Co Waterford, was the successful bidder, securing this stylish all round bull for his suckler beef enterprise who supplys 150 ¾ bred angus bulls to the Angus Producer Groups yearly.
