James Porter leads Dungannon sale at 4000gns

Aberdeen-Angus bulls reached a ceiling of 4000gns at this week’s breed society show and sale, held at Dungannon Farmers’ Mart, Northern Ireland, with James Porter’s Old Glenort herd leading proceedings

Profile: William McLaren jnr

The Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society has been fortunate in having one of its most progressive young breeders as president over the past year. Thirty eight year old William McLaren is one of the youngest ever incumbents of this high office and, as the fourth generation of the McLaren family who have been stalwarts of the Aberdeen-Angus breed for 86 years.

An order for 100 straws of Aberdeen-Angus semen for export to Estonia from a top breeding bull in the Rosemount herd has been confirmed at this week’s bull sales at Stirling.

Wedderlie get a first prize bull away at 9000gns

One of the babies of the Wedderlie team, Wedderlie Erobb H754 (lot 298) and winner of the last class of bulls has gone at 9000gns. This one is by Wedderlie Black Boss E950 and is out of a Tui Bon daughter and knocked down to Kenny Pratt, Aberdeenshire.

Haymount sell at 12,000gns

The best so far from Tom Arnott of Haymount, Haymount Womanizer H836, the first bull to be offered by the 17,000gns Cardona Edwin E367. He is out of a Cardona Eagle daughter and heads to Howard Quayle’s Balavitchel herd on the Isle of Mann.

Idvies Federal H391 goes at 9,000gns

Another Rommel son from Alistair Fraser Idvies Federal H391 (lot 263) has gone at 9000gns to AR Mathers and Sons, Inverurie. With a first prize ticket on him, he is out of Idvies Frances A077 and has a SRI of +40 with a milk figure of +11.

Blackhaugh Every Time goes at 6000gns

The fifth prize bull Blackhaugh Every Time H842, homebred on both sides going back to Leachman Right Time, has gone at 6000gns to Mr A Carter, Salisbury, Wiltshire.
